Sterling Mexican Onyx Mask Brooch

This pre-eagle early Mexican mask brooch has deep Aztec or Mayan design influence. He has a Sterling silver hand wrought frame which surrounds the bezel set hand carved black onyx face. The stone carving is beautifully executed and the silver headdress, with its scrolls and curves, encircles a darkened – niello – background, which provides heightened visual interest. Measures 2 1/2" x 1 1/2"
